Mundum Trekking Trial

Mundum trek is a newly discovered and is governmentally introduced off-beaten trail in 2018 in the  far East- Northern part of Nepal. The trekking initiates with approximately twelve hours bus ride to Diktel (1650m) in Khotang from Kathmandu (1400m). 

Mundum Trail, which is also called “a ridge trail” as the trekkers have to walk on the ridges enjoying the vistas of snow-capped mountain chains and eye-catching pastures and beautiful terrains on the sides. As a freshly started route, this trail is literally off– the– beaten, where trekkers can enjoy the hike leaving footsteps through grasslands, wilderness and pastures with the heart-touching sunrises in the mornings and crimson sunsets in the evenings. Camping on the trail is required since lodges and hotels are not found in the wilderness.

After an arrival at Diktel (1650) by bus, the trail moves ahead  to Chakhewa (2300m), Dhotre (2752m) Maiyung (3122m),Rawadhap (3426),the second best view point after Silichho (4156m), Salpa Bhanjyag (3348), locally known as Kulupongkho, from where trekkers ascend to Silichho Peak (4156m) early in the morning, leaving aside the  pristine Salpa Pokhari(2500), a holy lake with a religious significance.

Silichho offers clear view of  Mt. Everest (8848m)  Lhotse (8516m), Nuptse (7861m), Mera(6476m), Chamlang (7319m), Numbur (6958m), Makalu (8481m), Chalachuli (3636), and Kanchenjunga Range (8586m) and more than 22 other peaks. Both Salpa Lake and Silichho peak are known for their religious significance as they are believed to be holy in Kirat Community.

After a thrilling ascend of Silichho peak, the trail   descends to  Salpa Phedi(1680m), Chewa Besi (285m) to Tumlingtar (457m).

  • Accommodation: Local tea houses/ Tent
  • Equipment rental: You are requested to bring all your  necessary clothing and gear from home, however in Kathmandu there are many shops to buy and rent trek related equipment.
  • Trekking Backpack: Your baggage on the trek will be carried by our locally employed  porter guides. The maximum weight per trekkers is 15 kg. If you have any items which are not required on trek can be stored in our office  Khandbari.
  • Start:  Kathmandu.
  • Finish: Tumling tar.

Day 1 Drive from Kathmandu to Diktel Bazar 1,650 m (12 hours)

Meet your guide and porter and go to the bus station and catch your bus to Diktel. Travle for about 12 hurs and get Diktelk Bazar. The Local market and its tradition is effected by the Tribe of Rai and Kirat. You can see the different mixed traditional and modern effects in home as well life style Fine one of the best hotel for your overnight stay there.

Day 2Trek from Diktel to Chakhewa Village 2,300 m

After breakfast, begin the real Mundum Trek trek up Chakewa. This is about 24 Kms easy grade hiking. Today cross beautiful village of Dorap Chiuri Danda and Dobela. This part of Mundum Trek will give you the true rural experience above then expectations. Find one of the best home there for your overnight stay.

Day 3Trek from Chakhewa to Dhotre 2,752m

Wake up and enjoy the morning views of Chakewa Village. Enjoy the breakfast and start the upstairs hiking. Continue walking until you get Dhotre village. by crossing Maluwa, Dalsinga Pass with Ridge of Merung Danda. Find one of the best home there for your overnight stay

Day 4Trek from Dhotre to Maiyung (3122m)

Todays’ Trekking Trail is short and easy as well full of views. Today as other day we will start to hike after our breakfast.

You will pass more attraction then settlement. You will cross Chhimalung Pass, beautiful Mani wall of Phokte, hill point of Chautara, Mattim Danda, and religious temple of Baspani Devisthan and reach our camp of Mailung or Hans Pokhari.

Day 5 Trek from Maiyung to Rawadhap 3,426 m

Today we will get touch to the local Tribe of Mundum Trek. You will get connected with Rai and Kirat people more closely. The hanging cultivated fields, working people and their traditional will add more excitement to Mundum Trek Itinerary.

We will left behind the Kirat Rai Villages like Satdobato, Hyakule, Lauri Bina and reach our camp of Rawa Dhap. Rawa Dhap is beautiful base of Laure Hill where we spend our 7th night as Mundum Trekking Trail Itinerary.

Day 6Trek from Rawadhap to Salpa Bhanjyang 3,348 m (3,550m)

Today’s hike distance is short but time consuming. Don’t worry it is not because of steep uphill but because of Interest as well side excursion. As our experience lots of trekkers of Mundum Trek will slow because of local attraction and interesting traditions, culture and life style of Kirat People as well Rai People.

You will cross the places like Mani Wall of Nikasa, Mani of Handi Lake and Mani wall of Salpa Pass. Salpa pass is also known as Kulu Pankha Bhanjyang. Over Night at Salpa Pass or Salpa Pokhari.

Day 7Explore around Silchung Hill 4,200 m

Today is the most important day in the Mundum Trekking Trail Itinerary. We request you to hike early morning towards the view point of Silichung Peak also know as Salpa Peak. This view Point lies at the height of 4,153 meter above sea level. The views from this point is spectacular. Not only to the Himalayas, the deep valleys, green nature and white Himalayas make this a best and peaceful viewpoint. From this Silichung Hill you will sea the 5 tallest peak of the world and many more snow caped ones.

Mt. Everest, Kanchanjunga, Cho Oyu, Lhotse and Makalu all are 8000 meter above peaks. Thamserku, Kangtega, Amadablam, Dorje Lakpa, Kusum Khungurung, Numbur are few other peaks to mention here. We will back to our camp at Salpa Bhanjyang to enjoy our lunch and explore more on Rai village of Sanam and Kirat Village of Guranse and end the day.

Day 8Trek from Salpa Bhanjyang to Phedi 2,972 m.( 3600)

Itinerary of day 10, we will hike down to Hyakule by following the same trail we used few day earlier. Enjoy the missing attraction and interesting places and things. Over night at Kyakule.

Day 9Trek from Phedi to Katike Pul.

Today also we hike back to same trail till the end of day. Day 11 is the shortest and sweetest day hike in whole Itinerary of Mundum Trekking Trail. As your interest you can extend this to next village of Base of Maiyung Peak or Ekrate

Day 10Trek from Katike Pul to Tumlingtar 457 m

Have breakfast at the tea the house at around 8 am and begin your trek. Cross over the suspension bridge, and walk for about three hours along the Arun river and get Tumlingtar airport. Find one of the best hotels for your overnight stay there. Have enough rest there. Say goodbye to your porter guide.

Day 11Flight from Tumlingtar to Kathmandu

Today is your flight from Tumlingtar to Kathmandu. In the morning you will have enough time to explore Tumlingtar area. After having your lunch prepare for your flight to Kathmandu.
